Two libraries serve the reading and research needs of area residents. The Zephyrhills Public Library circulates a wide selection of printed materials of current fiction and non-fiction titles in standard and large-print books. The non-print section includes videos, books on tape, microfilm, internet access and computer software. Current system upgrades will allow inter-library integration.

The New River Branch Library (34043 State Road 54) is a branch of the Pasco County Library System. Opened in 1981, the library offers adult, young adult and juvenile materials, and schedules preschool story hours. The branch library also provides registered borrowers with a business reference service, a Florida collection, investment sources and close captioned videos.

Higher Education

Saint Leo University, located in Pasco County, offers a variety of coeducational liberal arts undergraduate and graduate degrees on its 170-acre campus and through an extensive off-campus program. Dedicated in 1890 as a Benedictine school (making it Florida’s first Catholic college), St. Leo currently serves approximately 8,500 students.

Located in nearby Dade City, Pasco-Hernando Community College offers associate degrees (in the arts and sciences) and technical credit certificates.

Seven other higher-learning institutions are within an hour’s drive of Zephyrhills, including the University of South Florida Tampa, University of Central Florida Orlando, Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Steson University of Law in St. Petersburg, Tampa College and the University of Tampa.

Many non-credit continuing education classes are offered by local libraries, institutions, organizations and businesses to provide opportunities for the adult student.
